What is pink Himalayan salt?**

A naturally occurring substance, salt is a combination of the two elements sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl), hence the scientific name sodium chloride (NaCl). This crystalline mineral is often found in the salty waters of the ocean and in rock salt deposits deep in caves. Pink Himalayan salt is a rare type of rock salt that comes from salt mines located thousands of feet below the Himalayan Mountains. Unlike regular table salt, pink Himalayan salt does not consist of pure NaCl. It is only 94-98% NaCl, and the rest of it is made up of other elements that are highly beneficial for your body. It also undergoes less processing than regular table salt, which allows it to keep most of its mineral content intact.


According to an article that appeared in the Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece, some of these minerals include iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium and sulfur. Preserve your food by dry salting it

Salt preserves food by drawing the water out of it. This process is called dry salting, and it has been used to preserve meat and other protein-rich foods for thousands of years.

Items needed:

  • Paper towel or cloth
  • Knife
  • Spices of choice to taste

Directions:

  1. Wash the meat thoroughly in warm water.
  2. Using the paper towel or cloth, pat the meat until fully dry.
  3. Cut the meat into thin slices. The thinner the slices, the better.
  4. Remove all the fat.
  5. Once all the fat is removed, thoroughly rub the pink Himalayan salt all over the meat. You may need to use larger amounts if you are using coarse ground salt. Fine ground salt is packed more closely together, so you will need less to thoroughly coat the meat.
  6. Add other spices as needed.
  7. Store the meat in an area with a temperature of 60 F.
